Birth and the transition to parenthood is life changing. It can encompass the most precious moments of your life, as well as present your biggest fears.
Our support services are designed on an individual basis, to help the pregnant women and families on the Surf Coast feel informed, empowered, supported and prepared for their journey through birth and into the postpartum.
Evidence suggests that when a pregnant woman has a strong support network, her experience of birth and the transition to motherhood is more positive and satisfying.
What it means to have a positive birth is different for everyone. We help pregnant people and families understand exactly what it means for them, so we can provide just the right support, with care and attention.
Whether you want continuity-of-care after the birth of your baby, private sessions to discuss your transition home after birth or even postpartum appointments from a private Midwife (in addition to what is offered by your medical care provider) to discuss any challenges or concerns, learn feeding techniques or debrief your birth with emotional support from a trained birth professional, we are here to help.
Birth & Postpartum Support
We are currently not offering birth support services from a doula, but are more than happy to chat with you about your needs and refer you to any of the vast network of doulas in the area that we are connected with. Each doula brings their own set of skills, passion and expertise so it’s important to get the right fit for you. We are also currently in the process of curating some incredibly nourishing Postpartum Support Packages that include lots of different goodies and options – from massage & body work, to nutritious food & replenishment, to private midwifery care, to pelvic physio treatments and more. What is a doula?
The role of a birth doula is to provide physical and emotional support during pregnancy and birth, as well as evidence-based information to help you get clear on what is important to you.
A doula’s presence is non-medical. They will support your pregnancy, respect your preferences, advocate for you and teach you how to advocate for yourself. They are your cheer squad and believe in you! There are also postpartum doulas who support new mothers in their transition to parenthood. A doula is an incredibly valuable resource to have on your team!
Anyone can have a doula or birth assistant. Whether you are in the public or private hospital systems, private birth retreat or having a private home birth – we encourage you to explore how having a doula could help you. These services are supportive of, and complimentary to, your care provider’s services.
A connection is developed with your doula during pregnancy by meeting on several occasions (usually in your own home), which solidifies a warm and trusting relationship in the lead up to birth. Getting to know each other really helps a doula provide support specifically for your needs, making the experience as special as it can be.
Doulas have your back…
There are many reasons for having a doula or birth assistant attend your labour.
